Mortgage Agent License in Ontario

ontario mortgage agent licenseMortgage agent licensing is regulated by the Superintendent of Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO).  A Mortgage Agent is someone who is licensed to carry out mortgage activities and working under a licensed Mortgage Broker or Brokerage.  They are supervised under a Mortgage Broker.  This is not the same test or requirement as the real estate license for agent or broker. To get your Mortgage Agent License in Ontario, please kindly follow the steps below.

Step 1 – Fulfill some basic entrance requirements

Firstly, you must be at least 18 years of age and be a resident of Canada.  You also need a mailing address in Ontario that you can receive regular mails(PO box is not accepted).  Secondly, you must seek employment and be authorized under a mortgage brokerage, you can only work for one brokerage at any point in time.  Lastly, you must have a valid email address.


Step 2 – Fulfill the education requirements

Requirements in Step one should be fairly easy to meet.  Now you need to complete the mortgage agent education program that is approved by Superintendent of Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO).   For a list of complete educational providers, please click here.


Step 3 – Apply for Mortgage Agent License

Upon successful completion of the mortgage agent education program, you must apply for licensing within two years of passing the education program.
